Subjects and Allocations

Subjects describe what the school teaches. Subject allocations describe who teaches a particular subject to a particular section during a particular term.

Start with the subject catalogue

Use Subjects to create the reusable entries your school offers, including a subject name, code when used by the school, and department. Keep one catalogue entry for each real subject rather than creating a separate subject for every class.

Create a subject allocation

Connect teaching information

  1. Open the subject and choose the allocation management area.
  2. Select the section, then enter or confirm the subject code.
  3. Select the teacher and the relevant term.
  4. Set capacity where your school uses it, then save.
  5. Confirm the allocation appears for the expected class and teacher before adding it to the timetable.
  1. 1Subject catalogue item
  2. 2Section and term
  3. 3Teacher
  4. 4Subject allocation
  5. 5Schedule and gradebook

Keep the distinction clear

Changing the name of a catalogue subject affects how the subject is described across the school. Changing a subject allocation affects one teaching arrangement. If a teacher changes for one section, edit that allocation rather than creating a duplicate subject.

Que se passe-t-il ensuite

The allocation is the bridge between academic setup and day-to-day teaching. It is used to place lessons on a timetable and to identify the class context for grading.
