Hifz Memorization and Spaced Revision (Path 2)
Maintain Quran memorization retention through automated spaced repetition intervals, distinct lesson streams (Sabaq, Sabqi, and Manzil), and overdue review queues.

The Three Streams of Hifz
Agiled models the traditional and scientifically proven three-tier memorization methodology:
- Sabaq (New Lesson): The newly memorized portion assigned for today (e.g., 5 to 10 new Ayahs).
- Sabqi (Recent Revision): The newly learned Surahs or pages from the preceding 1 to 2 weeks (typically the last half-Juz).
- Manzil / Muraja'ah (Cumulative Review): Older memorized portions reviewed systematically to ensure long-term retention.
Spaced Repetition Algorithm
To prevent memorized portions from being forgotten, Agiled implements an automated spaced repetition schedule:

Test[Teacher Assessment] --> Rating{Performance Rating}
Rating -->|Mumtaz / Excellent| Advance[Interval Advances: 1d → 3d → 7d → 14d → 30d]
Rating -->|Jayyid / Good| Maintain[Same Interval Maintained]
Rating -->|Needs Revision| Reset[Interval Resets to 1-3 Days]
Advance --> Queue[Next Review Queue]
Maintain --> Queue
Reset --> Queue
When a student recites a portion with full accuracy (Mumtaz), the interval multiplier advances (e.g. from 3 days to 7 days, up to a maximum of 30 days). If a student hesitates or requires prompts, the interval resets, ensuring that weaker portions return to the teacher's workstation more frequently.
Daily Teacher Workstation
Teachers record Hifz progress quickly during morning or afternoon circles at /islamic-learning/hifz/teach:
Conduct a daily Hifz review
- Navigate to
/islamic-learning/hifz/teachand choose your Hifz group. - Review the Overdue Muraja'ah Queue, which automatically lists students whose scheduled review interval has arrived.
- Select a student and record their Sabaq (new lesson), Sabqi (recent revision), and scheduled Manzil (cumulative retention review).
- Assign the mastery rating (Mumtaz, Jayyid Jiddan, Jayyid, or Da'if).
- Click Save & Next. The algorithm recalculates next due dates immediately.
School Hifz Policy Configuration
Administrators configure the retention intervals at /islamic-learning/hifz/policy:
- Set base interval days:
1,3,7,14, and30days. - Configure tolerance days before a portion is flagged as Overdue.
- Define minimum passing thresholds before Sabaq can advance to a new Surah.
